Why it’s so good...
I typically look at this as what it originally was- two EPs combined to form one album.
The first half is 5 songs that’s saturated in Russian influence and each song builds on the other (much like a montage you hear in a musical).
The second half features more heavy guitar, synth leads, and Nintendo references. You even get a flute solo in there.
As a whole though, you have an album that perfectly represents what Ozma is all about. It’s fun, it rocks (“step on the pedal that means metal”) and it has so much heart. That’s why I love this band- they’ll throw in playful lyrics about Legos or they’ll do an instrumental of the Tetris song, but then you have songs that tear at your heart. The true definition of emo, yes? But in the best possible way.
This really is a great album and the best word for it I think is "fun".
